day 8 title

Dictionary.com defines submission as “the action or fact of accepting or yielding to a superior force or to the will or authority of another person.” For believers, submission is yielding to God’s will and authority, giving Him access to lead us in life. We can trust His authority because God lovingly, graciously, and intentionally wants the best for us.

We’ve deviated so far from God’s intentions when it comes to submission that the very word causes spines to tingle uncomfortably. Those in Christian spaces have been exposed to too many who overstepped their authority, causing pain, hurt, and nearly irreparable damage under the guise of “submission”.

The work that God desires to do within us takes time because He doesn’t force compliance. Surrendering happens in stages, as our faith deepens. We cling to some parts of life because they’ve become familiar over time. They’re our main focus from the moment we wake up to the moment our eyes close as the day ends. Much of how we talk and function is based on the issues, the sins we struggle with most.

Sometimes we’re hesitant to yield to God because we’re scared. We don’t know what He’ll ask of us next. In order to protect our image and our reputation should the truth come out, we hide. God is worth trusting and He will use tender care when it comes to handling the most difficult situations.

If you’re wondering what God wants for you, ask Him. He’s very approachable and most willing to help us get closer to Him. If you find yourself struggling with something repeatedly, perhaps you’re having trouble giving it over to God. Don’t wait; try trusting Him now. God accepts us as we are right now and helps us to grow along the way.
